China's Newest Population Reform

Since the One-Child policy was implemented in china around 40 years ago, the population of China has since been controlled. By controlling the population, it has the controlled many of the problems that come from such a large population such as the great famine that occurred. However, since the policy has worked so well, there are now problems that are occurring due to policy. This is why China has agreed to be more lenient on the policy, it is now being relaxed. Research shows that China will have a quarter of their 1.34 billion people above 65; there will be a large elder population which will depend on the younger population. There is also a gender imbalance because men are more favorable as a child and the Chinese are only allowed one; they have abortions if the child is female and this will cause around 24 million Chinese men to be unmarried because there are not enough women. That is why couples in the rural areas are allowed more than one child if the firstborn is a female.
